The research shows that discrimination hurts our mental health.
As a Black woman, I know that oftentimes communities of Color experience enhanced stressors related to racism. As a woman, I know what it’s like to be talked over and underestimated in key environments like workplaces, hospitals, in places of leadership, and even inside of our family systems and friendships. As a therapist, I know the toll all of this takes on mental health.
Depression, anxiety, dissociation, and general overwhelm are often taboo topics for those of us who learn to survive by doing it all (because many times we have to). Sometimes, we overcompensate and burnout because we care. Simply put. And we care so much in the face of limited support, acknowledgement, or recognition.
Exhausting, right?!
Together, we’ll work on understanding the impact of these stressors on your sense of self and relationships.
We’ll explore all the layers that make you, you - including those related to race, culture, and other identities you hold dear. We’ll lean on your identities as strengths, not deficits. In addition to exploring the art and science of healing-centered trauma therapy, we’ll integrate your wisdom, insights, and any existing self-care practices into our therapeutic plan.
